Travertine Cleaning Problems Resolved
Unproductive Travertine Cleaning Frustrates Homeowners
Prescott, Arizona homeowners reached out to us for travertine floor restoration services because they were frustrated with the way their travertine floor always had a dirty appearance, even after sweeping and mopping. They were hoping that professional stone and tile restoration contractors could use specialized equipment and solutions to achieve beautiful, lasting results compared to regular cleaning methods. Their hopes were not disappointed.
Professional Travertine Services Achieve Better Results
We care about our clients' belongings and furnishings, so the first thing we did before starting any work was to mask and protect the surfaces surrounding our work area. We moved furniture out of the way, as well.
Part of the reason the homeowners were having such a hard time getting the fresh, clean look they wanted was that there were remnants of old topical sealer throughout the area. It was trapping dirt and grime on the travertine surface. We used a stripper to completely remove it.
We applied a specially formulated professional cleaning solution to the grout lines and allowed enough dwell time to soften embedded contaminants. Then, we hand scrubbed the grout lines to agitate the solution. We used color matched epoxy filler to repair a few holes.
Our cleaning process is completely different from sweeping and mopping. Using diamond infused pads mounted on a floor machine, we honed the travertine, removing a very fine layer of the surface. This virtually erased the damage, such as scratches, etch marks, and foot traffic patterns. The polishing process was similar, but we used finer grit diamond pads to restore the beautiful reflectivity to the floor's finish. The homeowners requested a medium polish, and we were very happy with how their choice turned out.
Our final steps were to apply a commercial grade sealer, remove all the protective coverings, and put the furniture back in place.
The homeowners were pleased with the appearance of the floor and relieved to know that the floor would be much easier to maintain going forward.
