Homeowners in Paradise Valley, Arizona contacted us for exterior porcelain tile rust stain removal services. They were so worried that their entire tile deck would have to be replaced.
Here's how the stain happened. Exposed to the elements, a metal planter developed rust, and eventually, a leak. Rusty water puddled on the porcelain tile underneath.
The homeowners had heard that treating a rust stain improperly could result in a permanent stain or irreparable damage to the tile. They decided to entrust this stain removal project to a professional tile restoration contractor, just to be on the safe side.
Professional Porcelain Tile Rust Stain Removal
Since we needed to use professional chemicals to remove the rust stain, our first step was to mask and protect the surfaces surrounding our work area.
We initially cleaned the stained area using mild methods to see what type of results we would get. We applied a professional rust remover and used a soft bristled brush to agitate the solution. After allowing the solution to dwell for a few minutes, we removed it and cleaned the affected area.
Although most of the rust was gone, a faded but visible rust stain remained. We decided to use a mild acid cleaner to remove the remaining rust. This professional product must be used with care to avoid acid etch damage on the surface of the porcelain. We worked in small areas, closely monitored the progress of the stain removal, and neutralized each area as soon as the rust stain disappeared.
We finished up by cleaning the entire deck to give it a fresh, uniform appearance.
The homeowners were so happy that their exterior porcelain tile would not need to be replaced.
