Sip Fresh, a fresh, fruit-based beverage store at Arrowhead Towne Center in Glendale, Arizona, contacted us to schedule a third-party inspection for what they believed could be defective quartz countertops. For commercial clients, stone and tile failures can result in insurance claims and even court cases.
Beverage stains on the white quartz were apparent, and no one had been able to remove them. The builder and quartz manufacturer flew in to have a look and were involved in litigation talks. Sip Fresh owners were worried about losing revenue if it became necessary to replace all of the quartz. Fortunately, this story has a happy ending for everyone involved.
Stone Forensics Certified Inspector

We identify the causes of problems, which sometimes involves sample collection and testing, reviewing specifications, and finding out what type of cleaning and care routine clients have been implementing. When appropriate, we make recommendations for the most appropriate repair and restoration methods, and we can also provide those services. In this case, we were able to determine that the staining, typical for this type of material, was due to ineffective cleaners.
Quartz Stain Removal and Professional Cleaning
Using two high-quality professional products, one a hydrogen peroxide-based formula called Easy Oxy, the other a stone-safe cleaner called Easy Scrub. These products, available for purchase at our webstore, were able to penetrate deep into the microscopic peaks, valleys, and pores of the quartz where staining agents had settled in. After our professional quartz cleaning and stain removal services, the tops were restored to like-new condition.
Although we did not seal the quartz (per the client's instructions) we recommended an application of HydroShield, a sealer that chemically bonds to the quartz to make daily cleaning easier and more productive. We are HydroShield certified applicators.
Everyone was happy that we were able to help them avoid the cost of a full replacement of the expensive quartz countertops.
